Published on 10 October 2026 · Updated on 10 October 2026

In short

A trade licence in Luxembourg is the business permit required to carry out a commercial activity. Trade and commercial services, including online selling and consulting, require no diploma: good repute, a fixed establishment and an effective manager are enough. Exceptions are real estate, HORECA, transport, continuing training, temporary work and travel organisation, which have their own conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Does an online seller need a permit?

Yes. Online selling is a commercial activity: it requires a business permit, with no diploma, and an establishment in Luxembourg. The common conditions of good repute, fixed establishment and effective manager apply as for any trade, with no specific qualification requirement.

Can several commercial activities be combined?

Yes, the permit is issued for the activities requested, so several commercial activities can be combined. Any new activity or extension of the corporate purpose, however, requires a new permit, which is why it pays to list all the intended activities in the initial application.
