Opening your company’s bank account in Luxembourg
Published on 10 October 2026 · Updated on 10 October 2026
In short
To open a business bank account in Luxembourg for a company being formed, the bank verifies the identity of the shareholders, managers and beneficial owners, the origin of the funds and the project. Once the capital is paid in, it issues a blocking certificate given to the notary. The account is released after registration.
What banks usually ask for
- ID and proof of address for each shareholder, manager and beneficial owner
- CV and project description: customers, suppliers, countries, expected flows
- Proof of the origin of the funds contributed to the capital
- Draft articles of association and group structure chart where relevant
No provider can guarantee that an account will be opened: the decision belongs to the bank. Our job is to present a complete, consistent and readable file, which reduces back-and-forth.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to open the account?
It is often the longest step of the formation, from a few days to several weeks depending on the bank and the profile. We start this step first so as not to hold up the schedule, and we present a complete file to limit back-and-forth with the bank.
Must a SARL-S block its capital?
Since 2 June 2026, a SARL or a SARL-S may pay up its cash contributions within 12 months of incorporation. The account is still needed to receive the capital, but it is no longer necessarily a prerequisite to the deed.
