Getting an RCS extract in Luxembourg
Published on 10 October 2026 · Updated on 10 October 2026
Please note. Business Registration SARL-S is a private advisory firm. It is not the Luxembourg Business Registers (LBR), the economic interest grouping that officially runs the RCS, the RBE and the RESA. Filings and registrations are made with the LBR, at the fees it publishes.
In short
A Luxembourg trade register extract is the official document summarising the information recorded in the Luxembourg Trade and Companies Register (RCS) for a company: name, legal form, registered office, capital, managers and their powers. It is ordered online from the Luxembourg Business Registers (LBR) website, for a fee, using the RCS number or the company name.
Definition
The RCS extract is a summary, at a given date, of the legal data recorded in the register for a registered entity. It is the Luxembourg equivalent of the French Kbis extract.

Company
An extract is only as accurate as the file
The extract reflects the filings made. A manager who resigned without a filing, or a registered office moved without a filing, still appears on it. Banks and notaries rely on this document: outdated data can block an account opening or a deed. A discrepancy is corrected by filing a change.
The extract does not say who the beneficial owners are: that information belongs to the UBO register (RBE), which has restricted access. For a certificate on a specific point, such as the absence of insolvency proceedings, see the RCS certificates. To simply find out whether a company exists, the RCS company search is enough and it is free.

Frequently asked questions
Is the RCS extract free?
No. Searching for a company and viewing filed documents are free, but extracts, certificates and certified copies are issued for a fee. The exact amount appears in the fee schedule published on the LBR website, which is worth checking before you order.
How recent must an extract be for a bank?
There is no legal rule on how recent an RCS extract must be. In practice, banks, notaries and administrations ask for a recent extract, often less than three months old. Check with the recipient before ordering, so you do not pay for a second extract.
Can the extract be obtained in English?
RCS data is held in the languages of filing and the extract reproduces the recorded information. If a foreign recipient requires a translation or an apostille, plan for a sworn translation and an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to the extract.
What if the extract contains an error?
If the error comes from a company filing, a change or a rectification must be filed with the RCS. If it comes from the register’s own data entry, contact the LBR. The page on correcting RCS data explains both cases.
