How to search for a company at the Luxembourg RCS
Published on 10 October 2026 · Updated on 10 October 2026
Please note. Business Registration SARL-S is a private advisory firm. It is not the Luxembourg Business Registers (LBR), the economic interest grouping that officially runs the RCS, the RBE and the RESA. Filings and registrations are made with the LBR, at the fees it publishes.
In short
A Luxembourg company search is done in the RCS file search on the Luxembourg Business Registers website, by name or by RCS number. It is free and confirms that a company exists. The file shows its status, for example “radiée” (struck off), and gives access to the filed documents: articles, annual accounts.

What the search lets you check
| Question | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Does the company exist? | Search result and file status |
| Is it in liquidation or struck off? | Status “en liquidation volontaire” or “radiée” |
| Who can represent it? | Latest appointment filing or RCS extract |
| Are its accounts up to date? | List of annual accounts filed |
| Who controls it? | Not at the RCS: RBE, restricted access |
Name search before incorporation
The RCS search shows the names already registered, but does not guarantee that a name is available: a similar trademark or trade name may cause a problem. For an incorporation, follow the procedure for checking the company name.
For an official document to give to a bank or a partner, order an RCS extract. Official publications of deeds can be consulted in the RESA. Before incorporating your company, check that the name is available.

Need an in-depth check?
Before an acquisition or a partnership, we analyse a company’s RCS file and its filings.
Frequently asked questions
Is the RCS search free?
Yes. Searching by name or RCS number and consulting the filed documents are both free on the LBR website, with no account fee. Only extracts, certificates and certified copies are charged for, for example when a bank asks for an official document.
Can you search for a person rather than a company?
The public RCS tool is designed to search for registered persons, companies or traders, by name or number. It does not offer a list of the mandates of a given manager; this information has to be read in the file of each company, one company at a time.
Are all annual accounts visible?
Filed accounts can be consulted as PDF from the RCS website, except where the law provides otherwise. The absence of recent accounts in a company’s file is a signal to examine carefully before dealing with that company, for example before a purchase or a partnership.
How do you know whether a company is bankrupt?
Bankruptcy and dissolution decisions are entered in the RCS and visible in the company’s file. The LBR also keeps the REGINSOL insolvency register, accessible through the RCS portal, which groups judicial and administrative dissolution decisions in one place. Check it before signing anything with a company.
